Associate of Science, concentration in Computer Science

This Associate of Science degree with a concentration in Computer Science prepares students for entry-level positions as software developers. The program provides students with hands-on experience developing software applications to learn the skills necessary for success in the computer industry.

This major also provides a foundation for transfer into a 4-year computer science program. The program includes courses from the field of study curriculum for computer science that has been approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

 

Degree Requirements (Total Credit Hours 66)


Communication (9 hours)


Mathematics (3 hours)


  • MATH 1314 - College Algebra
  • *Note:  If students have optained College Level Math 085 or ACT Math (Old) 25 or SAT Math 561, MATH 2412 may be used to fulfill Mathematics core requirements.  Otherwise, students need to successfully complete MATH 1314.

Humanities and Visual/Performing Arts (9 hours)


Select 1 course from the Humanities (40) Core 
Select 1 course from the Additional Humanities (41) Core 
Select 1 course from the Visual and Performing Arts (50) Core 

Social and Behavioral Sciences (15 hours)


Kinesiology (2 hours)


Select 2 credit hours from the Kinesiology (90) Core

A course may be used only once to fulfill degree requirements.

Check with the four-year institution to which you plan to transfer to ensure that courses taken at NVC are the courses that will apply to the appropriate degree.
