Additional Program Information
Materials Technology is a multidisciplinary field, working at the crossroads of physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, and information technology. Developments that are transforming our world - from the solar cells and fuel cells used in energy sector to the novel composites that hold the prospect of artificial skin for burn victims - all rely on the innovative properties, behaviors, and performance of metals, plastics, ceramics, biomaterials, electronic materials. Materials technology is an emerging discipline that works at the forefront of technology, weaving in applied science with engineering to compose new products-many of which have the potential to greatly improve quality of life.
The Level 1 Certificate in Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology prepares students for the emerging semiconductor manufacturing industries that support semiconductor Fab Units, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), solar cells, light-emitting diodes (LEDS), and electronics packaging. The students will complete 16 credits in materials and nanotechnology courses and will complete 7 credits specializing in semiconductor manufacturing processes.
