Associate of Arts, concentration in Music Technology

This program provides vocal and instrumental students with additional skills in computer music and recording technology. Training is provided in current music software and hardware. Students will acquire the skills necessary to use digital media as a composition, production, arranging, and recording tool. Students will also learn to compose and arrange music for television and film.

Degree Requirements (Total Credit Hours 63)

Communication (9 hours)

ENGL 1301 - Composition I
ENGL 1302 - Composition II
Select 1 course from the Additional Communication (11) Core
Check with transfer institution for requirement for specific major

Mathematics (3 hours)

Select 1 course from the following:
MATH 1314 - College Algebra
MATH 1332 - Contemporary Math I (Math for Liberal Arts Majors I)

Natural Sciences (7 hours)

Select 2 courses from the Natural Sciences (30) Core

Humanities and Visual/Performing Arts (9 hours)

Select 1 course from the Humanities (40) Core
ENGL 2341 - Forms of Literature (preferred)
or, select 1 course from the Additional Humanities (41) Core
MUSI 1306 - Music Appreciation

Social and Behavioral Sciences (15 hours)

GOVT 2305 - Federal Government
GOVT 2306 - Texas Government
Select 1 course from the Social and Behavioral Sciences (80) Core

Students who have completed a GOVT class should check with Student Success for appropriate course to satisfy requirements.

MUSI 1390 - Electronic Music I
MUSI 1391 - Electronic Music II
ARTV 1343 - Digital Sound
and, MUAP 11XX Applied Music (three semesters on same instrument or voice)

A course may be used only once to fulfill degree requirements.

Check with the four-year institution to which you plan to transfer to ensure that courses taken at NVC are the courses that will apply to the appropriate degree.
